Who We Are
Franklin Community Co-op is a community-owned food co-op that is deeply embedded in Franklin County, both through our two stores — Green Fields Market in downtown Greenfield and McCusker’s Market in Shelburne Falls — and through our work to support community organizations through member-owner volunteer work, sponsorships, and donations. We are proudly owned by over 5,700 member-owners and have been providing our community with locally-grown, organic, and natural foods and products for almost 50 years.

We believe that our community thrives when we all work together. That cooperative spirit shows up in many ways across the county and region. We buy from over 180 local farms and producers and are proud to work to enrich our region and continue building a food system that works for everyone. The Co-op is actively involved in supporting other cooperative businesses and the local economy. We employ over 90 community members at our two stores and many of our member-owners volunteer in local non-profit organizations through our Working Member program.
Everyone is welcome in our stores. You do not need to be a member to shop with us!

Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is made up of 11 member-owners who are elected by their fellow member-owners and serve the Co-op for three-year terms.
Overall, the Board directs the Co-op in the interests of our member-owners and has the legal responsibility to ensure the well-being of the Co-op. The Board is responsible for making sure the values, purpose, and mission statements of the Co-op, as described in the Ends Policies, are properly carried out.
Everyone is welcome to attend our Board meetings! The meetings generally take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Co-op Community Room at 170 Main St. Please check our events calendar for meeting details.

The Franklin Community Cooperative’s Board uses policy governance, a detailed and comprehensive method that structures and organizes their work. This type of governance uses policies to guide the general manager to progress towards stated goals (Ends) of the Co-op while staying within established boundaries. Through reports from the general manager, external reports, and the Board’s internal monitoring, policies and goals are evaluated and updated regularly. The policies and Ends Statement serve as a guide for the general manager and establish guidelines for the board’s evaluation of the general manager’s performance
Using Policy Governance helps ensure that the board does not involve itself in any areas of Co-op operations, while ensuring that the store runs optimally. Through the Ends Statement, the Board establishes the vision and goals that Co-op management is to pursue and achieve. The general manager decides how to achieve these Ends and presents the Board with documentation showing that they have achieved them. The Board then reviews the presented information, determining if the Ends have been met
